The acronym R.I.C.E. was coined by Dr. Gabe Merkin in 1978. in this acronym R is for rest, I for Ice, C for compression and E was for elevation. Ice was thought to be beneficial because of it’s analgesic or pain relieving effect. But primarily, it paused inflammatory processes and this is not beneficial as originally thought!

In this presentation, we turn the conventional wisdom of treatment for acute injury on its head and debunk the use of the RICE protocol. Aubrey will present evidence supporting a new approach, improving clinical outcomes, increasing the pace of recovery and reducing the risk of re-injury.
