The TMJ is a complex joint, capable of opening and closing, moving the jaw side-to-side and a sliding action for moving the jaw forward and back. It is also the most used joint in the body, used for eating, drinking, breathing and talking.

This almost constant use leaves this joint and its surrounding soft tissues prone to overuse and repetitive strain. When stress is added to the mix, clenching the jaw and grinding of the teeth can lead to clicking, locking and pain. Fortunately, the TMJ is also very responsive to Corrective Manual Therapy.

In this module we will discuss the local Anatomy, Specific assessment and treatment as well as home care to maintain the effects of treatment.
